Cape Town’s festive season is about to sound a little brighter. On Friday, 5 December 2025, St George’s Cathedral will play host to The Love & Light Christmas Fest — a one-night-only concert uniting three incredible choirs in a celebration of harmony, hope, and holiday joy.
Presented by The Heartsong Collective, the concert will feature performances by The Cape Town Children’s Choir and Usapho Creatives, blending voices from across the city in an evening dedicated to unity and love. The event also carries a deeper purpose — a portion of the proceeds will go towards helping Salt River Secondary School buy musical instruments and much-needed school supplies.

Audiences can look forward to classic favourites like Silent Night and Feliz Navidad, South African gems like Avulekile Amasango, and modern anthems like A Million Dreams. It’s the kind of show that fills the air with both nostalgia and new energy — the perfect start to December.
The creative force behind The Heartsong Collective, Lynne Poulsen, describes the show as a reflection of the group’s journey: “We’ve faced many challenges this year, but singing together has made such a difference in our lives. Our slogan is Sing. Connect. Transform. — and we truly believe that singing together can change lives.”
The choice of venue feels just right. St George’s Cathedral isn’t only iconic; it carries a deep legacy of community, resilience, and shared humanity. Poulsen says performing there earlier in 2025 for the Songs for Freedom concert inspired them to return — this time with their own event, joining forces with other choirs to create something truly uplifting.

Supporting Salt River Secondary was a natural extension of that mission. “We’re passionate about music education,” Poulsen explains. “The school needs help — they’re short on instruments, resources, and staff — and we want to make a small difference through what we love most: singing.”
So if you’re looking for something wholesome, joyful, and beautifully South African to round off your year, this might just be it. The Love & Light Christmas Fest takes place on 5 December at 18:30 (doors open at 18:00) at St George’s Cathedral, Cape Town. Tickets are R200 for adults and R100 for children under 12, available via Quicket.

And if you happen to have a spare guitar, violin, or even a recorder gathering dust somewhere — Salt River Secondary could use it. You can reach out to organiser Lynne Poulsen directly on 084 673 2394 or email lynne@theheartsongcollective.co.za to donate.
One night only, three choirs, countless voices — and a little more light in the world.
