I’m thrilled to share the news about Madelaine, a rising star in the South African music scene. This talented Afrikaans singer and songwriter recently unveiled her debut EP, “EK Kies Vandag.” This release comes shortly after the launch of her debut single, which shares the same title.
Madelaine’s journey into the world of professional music is both unique and inspiring. While many artists dive into their careers at a young age, Madelaine chose a different path. Despite being surrounded by music from her early years and showcasing her talents in singing, playing the piano, and songwriting, she waited until her 40s to fully immerse herself in the music industry.

Her childhood memories are filled with musical moments. She recalls, “My mother mentioned how I’d climb onto the church benches during prayer meetings, singing my heart out to the worship songs, even as a little girl.” Such anecdotes paint a vivid picture of a young girl deeply connected to her musical roots.
In August 2022, a significant opportunity came her way. Madelaine participated in the ATKV Crescendo Auditions, where she showcased her songwriting and singing prowess. “It was a moment I couldn’t let slip by. I had to display my gift and my passion for creating and performing my own songs,” expressed the 47-year-old, who previously held roles as a Strategic Planner and Project Manager.
Madelaine’s formal introduction to music began with classical piano lessons when she was just 5 years old. By the age of 10, in 1986, she joined the NKP Kinderkoor, which later became the University of Pretoria Jakaranda Kinderkoor. “Choir music has always held a special place in my heart,” she fondly recalls. Throughout her school years, Madelaine was an active participant in school choirs, ensemble groups, and various talent shows, honing her skills in singing, piano, and even acting.
The songs in her EP, “Ek Kies Vandag,” are a testament to her life’s journey. For instance, “Stiltes,” penned in 2001, reflects a period of introspection and prayer. The subsequent year saw the creation of “My Iemand,” a song about her quest for love. This year, she completed her album with tracks like “Exodus,” “Woorde,” and of course, “Ek Kies Vandag.”
Madelaine’s music is a mirror to her soul, reflecting her personal experiences and stories. “I’ve reached a point in my life where I truly understand myself, my strengths, and my vulnerabilities. Through my music, I aim to share a message of hope and inspiration,” she shared.
Her album, a blend of adult contemporary with a hint of smooth jazz, features compositions by the talented Helmut Meijer. “Having him as my producer is a blessing. He truly understands my musical essence,” Madelaine expressed with gratitude.
With this new project, Madelaine feels rejuvenated and optimistic about her emerging career. She believes in the power of perspective, stating, “Life’s events have a purpose. They can either shatter you or shape you. With faith, the choice is yours. It’s about how you perceive and respond to situations. You have the power to choose a brighter day.”
For those eager to experience Madelaine’s musical magic, “Ek Kies Vandag” is available on all major streaming platforms.
