Look, I know what you are thinking. Why is a grown adult spending time working out which fuzzy, sun worshipping toddler mascot would win in hand to hand combat. And to that I say, why not. Someone has to ask the important questions, and apparently that someone is me.
For anyone who somehow missed the entire cultural phenomenon, Teletubbyland is home to four creatures with televisions in their stomachs, questionable communication skills, and an unsettling amount of devotion to a giggling baby sun. Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po. Four names, four wildly different fighting styles, and today, we settle this once and for all.
Let’s start with Tinky Winky, the tallest of the group and the proud owner of a red handbag that he treats less like an accessory and more like a personality trait. On paper, height and reach should give him the advantage. In practice, the handbag is doing a lot of heavy lifting for someone who otherwise moves through life at the speed of a Sunday afternoon nap.
Then there is Dipsy, who I am fully convinced is the most tactically dangerous Teletubby in the group. That green cow print hat is not just a fashion statement, it is basically a weapon disguised as headwear, and Dipsy knows exactly how to use it. Underestimate the calm one at your own risk.
Laa-Laa brings sunny energy and coiled antennae to the fight, which sounds charming right up until you realise she has genuinely no strategy beyond vibes and enthusiasm. Great energy, questionable game plan. She is the friend who shows up to a fight with a positive attitude and absolutely no exit strategy.
And then there is Po. Small, round headed, deceptively fast, and armed with the single greatest tactical advantage in all of Teletubbyland, an actual scooter. While everyone else is relying on toddler shuffle speed, Po is out here with wheels, and honestly, bringing a vehicle to a fistfight should probably be against the rules, but nobody wrote any rules, so here we are.
Round one sees Dipsy take down Tinky Winky through sheer agility, proving that the hat wielding menace is not just style over substance. Round two belongs entirely to Po, who simply outlasts Laa-Laa on pure stamina and superior transportation, leaving her opponent legitimately winded from all that sunny disposition.
Which brings us to the final showdown. Dipsy versus Po. Hat versus scooter. Calm versus chaos. Dipsy tries the classic wind-up hat spin move, sending gusts flying and momentarily knocking Po off balance, and for one glorious second it looks like the underdog might actually pull this off. But Po recovers, closes the gap at scooter speed, steals the hat clean off Dipsy’s head mid-spin, and finishes him off with his own signature move. Poetic. Slightly humiliating. Extremely satisfying to watch.
So there you have it. In the totally scientific, deeply unnecessary battle for Teletubby supremacy, Po takes the crown, proving once and for all that in any fight, against anyone, bringing your own wheels is always the smartest move. Take note.
