There’s a poignant beauty in experiencing the full spectrum of our emotions, even when they lead us into the heart of despair. The ever-evolving journey of emotional self-discovery forms the heart of Christi’s new single, “RAIN”. Not one to shy away from the complexities of the human experience, the young singer-songwriter has crafted a song that speaks to the universal truths of emotional numbness and the desperate yearning to feel again.

Born out of a period of intense personal struggle, “RAIN” serves as a testament to the transformative power of music. “I’ve grappled with depression, and there was a time when I felt emotionally dead,” Christi shares. “I wasn’t happy, sad, or anything in between. I was simply numb. RAIN came from a place of desperately wanting to feel, to release the pain.”

In a similar vein to her debut single, “Fall Apart”, this new song is a reflection of Christi’s real-life experiences. “RAIN offers a glimpse of me at my worst. It’s a cry for help and an expression of hope that things will get better,” she confides. “This song helped lift me out of a dark place, and I hope that it will do the same for others.”

Don’t be fooled, however, by the deep and serious themes – “RAIN” is no dirge. Christi, with her love for the vibrant 80s pop sound, ensures that the song’s message is conveyed in a light-hearted, yet soulful way.

This mesmerising tune will undoubtedly resonate with many. As Christi puts it, “Mental health is close to my heart and this song comes from a very vulnerable place. I want people to know that they are not alone in their pain.”

Adding to the allure of “RAIN” is a compelling music video, freshly released. Inspired by Miley Cyrus’ video for “River”, Christi partnered with director Gerduan Kemp to bring her vision to life. “I wanted something simple yet fun, and Gerduan not only met my expectations but completely surpassed it!”

Filmed at Sower Studios, the music video ingeniously utilises angles, lights, and body movements enhanced by water projections to create an emotionally charged atmosphere. “My performance in the video embodies the emotions behind the lyrics, with the lights and water building on the feeling of the song,” Christi explains.

Creating this music video has been an exhilarating journey for Christi. “I felt so free expressing my music with my body. The video honestly portrays who I am and what I feel, and truly captures a part of me. I think that makes it quite unique,” she says.

Already a sensation from her first single, Christi, a Potchefstroom native, is a rising star dedicated to her music career. Her father, a DJ, ignited her passion for music, and she has never looked back. 2023 promises to be a big year for this young talent, with plans of releasing her debut album and new music, and travels to Israel and France.
