How to Make Basil-Infused Salt

Read Time:2 Minute, 37 Second

I’ve been growing basil in my little garden for months. Through severe rain and extreme sun, my little seedlings grew up into nice big bunches of basil ready to be used. Full of nutrients and simply smelling amazing.

But what can you use it for besides using it fresh? I decided to experiment and make some basil-infused salt. This way I can use it longterm and in many different kinds of dishes.

So here goes my own version (and my first fail) of basil-infused salt.

What do you need?

  • Fresh basil
  • Coarse sea salt or Himalayan salt
  • A food processor or blender
  • Baking pan and baking sheet
  • Time and patience
  • Fairydust for when you mess up

Instructions:

Get your salt and basil ready. Best way to do it is to work on a 1 cup salt to 1/3 cup basil ratio.
Place the two ingredients in your food processor and blend/mix/crush thoroughly.
Make sure you get a nice decent consistency. Don’t worry if it’s not fine yet.
Scrape all the ingredients into your pan and spread out evenly. Proceed to place it in the oven for 30 minutes at 220 degrees.
After 30 minutes, take the mix out and slowly die inside realising that a) you added too much basil and not the correct ratio and b) you placed it on too high of a temperature. It’s burnt and ruined. It’s not supposed to look like that. Then proceed to realise your partner sees you f*cked up and act like it was all just a part of the plan. Once your partner leaves the room pour some wine and cry internally. Then realise your momma didn’t raise no quitter and start again… *sigh*
Quickly restart the process with the CORRECT ratio mentioned in step 1.
Place in the oven (once again… Let’s do this!) For 20 minutes this time at 160 degrees.
Once done in the oven, break the mixture up and add again to the food blender and make it as fine as you would like it to be.
Alternatively… Crush it with a nifty hammer or rolling out out on a wooden board because your wine ran out and you need an outlet…
And guess what. YOU ARE DONE. You have your beautifully made basil-infused salt ready to be used.
Even though it’s pretty like this… You still need a better container.
Be eco friendly and green. Re-use an older spice bottle and make it look store bought.

Lastly take an Epic photo to show off your new edition to your spice rack and pretend you didn’t have an epic fail and actually telling people about it in your blog. *awkward*

Salt infused with fresh herbs is a simple way to spice up everyday foods, and because there’s added flavour, you can use less than usual!

It can also be a great gift to give others, something that comes from your heart and made with love. Slap a nifty personalised sticker on the container and it could become extra special.

Try make your own and let me know how it went! ??
