In my search for unique and engaging building experiences, the Mega Pokemon Motion Pikachu Building Brick Set emerged as a notable choice. Now I know, I am a grown ass adult, wanting to build a Mega Block set… Yes, so what? I am a geek and proud of it. Plus, who hasn’t cried and laughed and enjoyed the tales of Pikachu with his friend Ash?
Well, with its 1095 piece set in a box that looked quite scary… I set off to start building, and building, and building, and oh wait, building.
Unboxing this set was a moment of true excitement. The quality of the bricks and pieces was immediately apparent, i mean, this cost a pretty Randela, so it did live up to the price point at least and reflected a commitment to superior design and manufacturing. The set included a buildable display case and a rocky path environment, enhancing the mechanised Pikachu to create a charmingly animated display.
Now about that mechanised part…
Assembling Pikachu was a task that tested my patience and skill. The instructions were clear, but the construction, particularly the conveyor belt for the animated grass with its little hand crank, was complex and sometimes challenging where I had a few swear words. The belt occasionally slipped out of place, adding to the challenge of me not losing my mind and screaming into the void. However, overcoming these obstacles was extremely satisfying, a sigh of relief, a dance under a full moon sky, it was everything. The building process became progressively smoother, culminating in a great sense of accomplishment after that. Yes, I stroked my own ego after I got to a point where the entire thing wasn’t falling apart and snapping at me.
But don’t be fooled… this might take you a day (or two…) Or you could get someone like your boyfriend to build it for you instead and you just take all the credit. Shht, no one needs to know.
The final model is impressive. Pikachu’s design is detailed, and the hand-operated crank animates the figure realistically, moving its legs, feet, and tail as well as your patience. I found myself using this feature sparingly to avoid damaging the delicate set. Therefore, it functions more as an exquisite display piece, ideal for collectors and Pokemon fans. (PS: I am sure it will work perfectly, I just don’t want to risk it haha) Plus, before I forget… these blocks are ridiculously durable and because of that, it’s a much tighter fit than what you might be used to. This is a good thing, as you really want something to click well, work well, and stay well. Unless you make a mistake and you have to take it apart… luckily it comes with a handy tool to remove that kind of block where you had an accidental moment of mistaken identity… aka, you used the wrong block.
Now, this set’s compatibility with other MEGA Pokemon sets and various brands adds versatility, encouraging further creative exploration – so if you are a fan of MEGA blocks, you can continue playing and creating your own special creations from other sets at least. While it is recommended for individuals aged 12 and above, the set seems more suited for adult collectors because of its detailed nature and nostalgic appeal.
The building process may be challenging, but the end result is a magnificent, animated model that is sure to delight fans and collectors. MEGA blocks have truly created something enjoyable here, and I eagerly anticipate more of these mechanised sets to push the boundaries and add to the fun.
For those of you who might be interested in adding this to your wish list for SANTA… you can get this from a lot of online stores, like Takealot, but also in stores such as Toy Kingdom, Toys R Us and more.
Oh, and i almost forgot… THE NORTH POLE!
So my verdict is. Buy it. Buy it. Buy it. You have to buy ’em all!
