The child’s name was Isabella Dolorosa van Tonder—but her granny called her Tinkerbell. Amanda Strydom takes to the stage as Nella Petersen in a heartwarming tale of hope, adventure, self-discovery, and the long road home. The story unfolds through rich narrative and song, with music beautifully arranged and performed by long-time collaborator Coenraad Rall.
Told in Afrikaans, English, Khoi, French, and Dutch, this Motherland fairytale is full of unexpected twists and turns. As Strydom puts it, “Life is a journey, wie’s djy nou om die transport te question?”

The production received the Woordtrofee for Best Musical Play at the 2024 Toyota Stellenbosch Woordfees.
Frith Harris, The Citizen:
“The marvellous story of a young coloured girl who starts out life in a cruel orphanage and despite circumstances that at times seem unsurmountable, emerges triumphantly.”
