There are cars, and then there are cars that petrolheads speak about with a kind of quiet respect. The 1971 Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R is firmly in the second group.
Mattel Brick Shop is adding this legendary Japanese performance car to its collection, and it marks the premium building brand’s very first collaboration with Nissan. The set was revealed at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, where Mattel Brick Shop made its first appearance with a press conference at its booth.

833 pieces of pure car culture
Made in collaboration with Hot Wheels, the 833-piece set recreates the Skyline at 1:16 scale in a classic white racing livery with printed red stripes.
It has been designed with customisation in mind. In the box you will find a custom decal sheet, two sets of wheel covers (one of them in metal) and extra parts including a front splitter, headlight covers and an intercooler, so you can make the build your own.

The detailing goes well beyond the paint job. The steering actually works, the hood opens to reveal a detailed engine, and a metal signature plate finishes the whole thing off.

My favourite touch is the exclusive matching 1:64 scale Hot Wheels die-cast that comes with it. One to build and one to park right next to it on the shelf. That is a collector’s dream right there.
Why the Hakosuka matters
Known to enthusiasts as the “Hakosuka,” the 1971 Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R helped establish the GT-R name as a Japanese performance icon.
It was built with motorsport in mind, and its success in Japanese touring car racing, its distinctive boxy design and its relative rarity have made it one of the most recognisable and sought-after Japanese performance cars among collectors.
From the racetrack to the big screen, and now to your collection, this is one icon of car culture you get to build yourself.
