So You Are a Millennial That Did Not Expect To Live This long, Now What?

The millennial generation is typically defined as being born between 1981 and 1996, and its oldest members are turning 40 this year. We Millennials are no longer Kids, we are literally not just figuratively in charge of companies, wealth, planning and families.

But, there is a catch that more of us Millennials are starting to go through. The catch is, we did not expect to live this long. Therefore, we have lost our purpose. Well, we technically never had one but still, we lost our purpose.

We are the generation that started social media, Gen Z seems to be perfecting it. We are the generation that knows that the save icon is actually the floppy disc. That old tv’s gave that intense static feeling when you held your hand super close and the generation that had to struggle with boomers. They called us the most lazy, most useless, most backward ‘kids’ ever.

They attacked us for eating too much avo as young adults and complained that we are too self entitled for wanting the basic things, that they had by default through generational wealth and privileges’.

It took us 17 hours to download a file from Napster, or the fact that we had to give miss calls to our friends to log onto MXIT or MIG33 so we could chat.

We saw photos being made from film, taking a few weeks to be developed, to having digital nudes in NFT’s. (Pretty fucked up).

What about the war in Iraq? Nine Elevens terrorist attack? Or the fact that our generation has seen so much death unlike any other generation before us. Death through media, news, video games, movies, tv shows. Real or fake doesn’t matter, we have seen violence. EXTREME violence.

Our entire social construct has been, fuck it. We aren’t going to live long anyways with how the Boomers has ruined the planet. Since the early 2000’s we have been taught how global warming is killing us and films, books and fanatic theories have ‘taught’ us that the world will soon end. We will either do it ourselves or some global apocalyptic event will take us out.

We cannot afford to buy houses. We have student debt and a chilled with a slight anxiety induced panic attack attitude most days. We went through our emo stages romanticizing the concept of death and we have no issue mocking death to take us at any given time. Making those around us pretty uncomfortable at stages.

Now, its 2021 – We are still not dead. We are actually fucking surviving. We are looking at Gen Z waking up, realising their power and influence and its riveting to see. Right? Well, until they recently turned against us. Calling us old. Mocking our hairstyles, our sense of humour and the skinny jeans… the damn skinny jeans.

We Millennials have clocked out many years ago anyways and let our life run on auto-pilot. We don’t know what to do with our lives and face it, we are so so tired. FOR NO REASON. TIRED.

So i have decided, as a Millennial, my purpose used to be embracing death. Since the Snail is never reaching me… i have decided to claim a new purpose. Live long enough to see Generation Z get wiped out by Generation Alpha. Alpha is about to entire those teenage years. Gen Z is so busy with TikTok and creating a new world, that they are not even paying attention to who will be their downfall.

Remember when Millenials were at the top of the foodchain? Well Alpha is going to eat Gen Z for breakfast… My new purpose in life is to sit back, grab some popcorn and see it unfold. Whose with me? It’s not like we have anything else going for us…
