This is where our story begins, a narrative about a small-town girl with big dreams. Dreams that bloomed in the fertile soil of the musical legacy of South Africa. Meet Jamie-Lee Sexton, our pride and joy, and the kaleidoscope of new-age pop.
At an age where most children were lost in playground games, Jamie-Lee found her solace in music. A self-made artist, she discovered her passion for the guitar and piano and began weaving musical threads into a vibrant tapestry of creativity and talent. Growing up in a small town, her dreams were always much larger, much more ambitious. Her path led her to the AFDA in Johannesburg, the golden city that became her oyster.
In the hum and bustle of Johannesburg, Jamie-Lee flourished. Not just a singer, but a multi-talented powerhouse, she majored in Live Performance and left an indelible mark as a celebrated actress. Twice, she was crowned the best actress at her university. Her versatile talents led her from intimate studio settings to jam-packed jam sessions, displaying an insatiable drive and dedication to her craft.
With rhythm coursing through her veins, Jamie-Lee seized the opportunity to enter Idols in 2010. Her talent and dynamism were irresistible, and she found herself in the prestigious Top 8. This multifaceted artist’s signature sound, a medley of various genres, was fashioned into an innovative new-age pop sound.
Post Idols, Jamie-Lee embarked on a musical journey that saw her collaborating with Soul Candi’s DJ Parkah, forming an Afro house, soul, and hip-hop fusion called AudioPhrniq. They created waves across South Africa, energising stages with their captivating performances. But Jamie-Lee didn’t stop there. She founded the Sextons in 2013, an energetic live act that won the hearts of music lovers at some of South Africa’s and Africa’s best music festivals including OppiKoppi, Forr- Mozambique, Splashy Fen, Afriski- Lesotho and more.
Jamie-Lee’s music took a personal turn in 2017, when she embarked on a solo career. Focused on her songwriting and sharing her experiences with the world, Jamie-Lee has continually reinvented herself, embracing a renewed energy and vision. Her debut single, ‘Magic,’ encapsulates her journey, a reminder of the child who once believed in the magic of dreams and music.
This solo journey saw Jamie-Lee produce some of the finest songs in the South African music scene, hitting #1 on Apple Music with her EP, ‘Medicine Woman.’ Bursting with invigorating beats, catchy riffs, and her signature raspy vocals, these songs are a melodic earworm that will have you humming long after the track has ended.
Fast forward to today, and Jamie-Lee continues to enthral audiences with her R&B infused pop single, ‘Take A Moment.’ An earnest message, a sexy and smooth production, rhythmic charms and deep lyrics are just a taste of what this new track offers.
